Eric Hyrst was a Balanchine dancer who became the top dancer in Montreal at the Grands Ballets Canadiens. (DVD documentary available at the Documentary Channel website – called “Two for Ballet”) He worked with Massine and many others. He choreographed over 150 original ballets in his lifetime. I am interested in joining an apprentice company (leading up to, of course, a professional company) and have no idea to start. What are some noted apprentice companies that could potentially suit a contemporary ballet and modern dancer?

I’m a nurse. I have a date tomorrow with a ballet dancer. What will she be like? What do we have in common? Will she be a fun person? Is anybody intimitated by the thought of dating a dancer?

I would imagine he would have to face teasing from peers (unfortunately), etc. This sounds like a stupid question, but I’m curious to hear from male dancers why they decided to persue ballet.
Please refrain from the usual (love of the art form, etc.) as these are generalized assumptions. I’m really interested to hear from male ballet dancers or from people who are involved in ballet.

I want to become a ballet dancer, but my mom says that a lot of ballet dancers have health problems during their old age. Is that true? She says that the nerves on the big toes get damaged. I tried to Google it to see if anything was true, but I can’t seem to find anything. Also, is it too late to start ballet lessons when you are in your late teens? What are some of the good ballet dancers/ballet companies out there? Is it expensive to become a ballet dancer? How many years does it take to master this art?
